This workshop offers an intense practical experience in the art of hand spinning. On a journey of discovery of ancestral traditions, participants will have the opportunity to learn how to transform raw wool into yarn ready for use in weaving or other craft creations.
- We’re going to take a practical look at the whole process of transforming wool, from the sheep to the yarn:
- Introduction to Portuguese wool and its context;
- Raw wool; learning to evaluate fleece and wool fibers;
- Washing wool;
- Methods of preparing fibers for spinning: crimping, combing and carding wool.
- Practical introduction to spinning with a spindle and wheel.

At the end of the textile workshop you’ll take with you the wool you’ve spun from this noble raw material.
